Workshop: The place of public sector innovation labs in policy systems

The Policy Lab at The University of Melbourne has been studying the rapid growth of public sector innovation labs around the world. These labs employ a range of social science and other methods and are seen as a mechanism for generating creative solutions to pressing policy problems. Yet little is known about the kinds of approaches and methods they are taking to policy problems, how they work with/in government departments, and whether they are having an impact on the policy system more broadly. With a grant from ANZSOG, we have surveyed more than 50 labs in Australia and New Zealand and are undertaking case studies of 5 of these during 2018.  The Policy Lab will present the findings from this study, and run a facilitated session – together with some of our partners – on the implications of these new and rapidly spreading forms of organization for public policy.

Lunch will be provided.
